Barbershop is a style of four part, unaccompanied singing, usually sung in all male or all female groups. The four parts are

  • Lead - the melody

  • Bass - the foundation of the chorus who sing very, very low

  • Tenor - known to sparkle and generally show off on the high notes

  • Baritone - all the notes that are left. The hardest part to sing.

The Abbey Belles do not sing exclusively in the barbershop style but cover many different kinds of 'a capella' singing in our repertoire. Every year we enter the LABBS (Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers) national convention, which entails a lot of hard work and effort. There are additional Sunday rehearsals and sectional rehearsals too. You must be sixteen or over to sing with the Abbey Belles.
